Artist: Mark Lazenby

Mark obtained a BA (Hons) in Illustration at Bath University and a Masters in Visual Communication at the Royal College of Art, he has also spent some time at the Kunst Buch Schule in Leipzig.

All his work is based on layers, layers of meaning and of paper. Utilising beautiful scraps of paper, Mark works in collage and montage, using anything from antique books to rubbish found on the street.

"I see my work as visual poetry, all heavily based on narrative. On one level I want all my work to be beautiful; visually alluring, and then to reveal itself and the ideas gradually".

Mark has exhibited widely and has work in the private collections of Paul Smith, Sir Peter Blake and Paul Auster amongst others.

Sir Peter Blake comments; "Mark Lazenby is a very good collagist in the best tradition of collage making, via Kurt Schwitters and Joseph Cornell. What makes him even more interesting though, is an interest in, and a beautiful use of typography in his work. I am a fan, and owner of a collage by him"

"Lazenby has turned an otherwise idiosyncratic habit of collecting 'beautiful scraps of paper' into an artistic talent" Nylon magazine.
